Robert A. Phelps

Robert Phelps from Oregon Hill passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on January 11, 2024. Bob was born on December 26, 1937, the youngest child of Blair and Cora Dinnison Phelps of Liberty.  On June 29, 1957, he married the love of his life, Jane Teed of Oregon Hill. They shared 66 years of marriage before his passing.  Bob and Jane settled on Oregon Hill in 1960 to raise their family and work their farm.

Bob was employed through the years at Ward’s Foundry, hauling milk to the Liberty Milk Plant, being a Pine Township Supervisor, and retiring as a maintenance worker at Borden’s in Wellsboro after 40 years of service. 

After Bob retired, he and Jane began traveling in his Dodge pickup with a camper on the back. They went on many local excursions to go fishing, and travelled through the western states. They drove to Alaska, camping along the way.  Bob loved to fish the local lakes and spent many years hunting both on the family farm and as a life-time member of Fall Creek Hunting Club in Liberty.  Family trips to the old log cabin on the Black River in Waltham, Quebec were a yearly tradition greatly looked forward to!

Bob is survived by his children, Jeff and Bonnie, of Oregon Hill, Lillian and Ed Smith of Wellsboro and son-in-law Kurt Blackwell of Oregon Hill. The lights of his life were his grandchildren, Brandon and Jami Blackwell, Alicia Smith and Josh Neibert, Nathan Smith, Janelle and Chad Baumunk, and Blair Phelps and Mikayla Chilson.  He has 6 great grandchildren, who he adored, along with a great-grandson expected in May. 

Bob was predeceased by his daughter Brenda Blackwell, and grandson Nicholas Blackwell.  He was also predeceased by his siblings, Harlan, Laverne, Carol and Jean.

Visitation will be held for Bob at Freeberg Funeral Home, 120 North Williamson Road, Blossburg, PA on Saturday, January 20th, from 1p.m. until 2p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 2p.m. Pastor Ed Siddle will officiate. In lieu of flowers, Bob’s memory would be well served by donations of blood to Community Blood Bank of Northwest PA, which serves Tioga County.  (More information can be found at fourhearts.org)
